In July 2019 the Atlanta Festival Academy created an awesome new music performance and education experience for not just Atlanta, but the entire Southeast region of the USA. Dozens of students gathered from around the world and, after just ten days of dedicated and personal instruction, amazed thousands of people in widely acclaimed live concerts.

We now add to this great event a live classical music competition that will give up-and-coming musicians ages 23 and younger the opportunity to compete for nearly $10,000 in prizes and performances.

When & Where

The inaugural Atlanta Festival Competition will take place just before the 2020 Atlanta Festival Academy (July 20 – July 28, 2020). Applicants will need to submit preliminary round videos by May 15, 2020, and the live in-person competition will be July 18 and 19, 2020 in the city of Johns Creek, Georgia, USA.

Competition Divisions and Prizes

The 2020 Atlanta Festival Competition will feature three competition divisions: Piano, Orchestral Instruments, and Chamber Music (for groups with 3-10 ensemble members). Within those divisions there will be specific competition age groups:

  • 11 and under
  • 12 to 16
  • 17 to 23
Orchestral Instruments
  • 11 and under
  • 12 to 16
  • 17 to 23
Chamber Music
  • 12 to 16
  • 17 to 23

For each division/age-group section (for example, Piano – 12 to 16), the following prizes will be available:

  • 1st Place – $500
  • 2nd Place – $300
  • 3rd Place – $150

A Grand Prize Winner will also be named, and that person will get to perform at the Atlanta Festival Academy’s Rising Stars concert on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at the City Springs Performing Arts Center, one of Atlanta’s best new concert venues. Additional outstanding competitors may also be awarded the chance to play at this amazing concert.

The Atlanta Festival Competition is open to all applicants; participation in the Atlanta Festival Academy is not required to apply.

Applicants’ age on July 20, 2020 determines what age-division they compete in.

Chamber Music ensembles must have a minimum of three performers and a maximum of ten.
